What We Write About,
and Why.
Most of what is written about tailoring is either advertising or folklore. These notes are neither. They come out of the workshop and the fitting room, and they exist because the same questions come up at nearly every first appointment - what actually separates a dinner suit from a black suit, how heavy a tweed should be for the way you will wear it, whether a suit really needs resting between wears.
The style pieces cover dress codes and what they genuinely require, from black tie to race day and the country. Fabric notes deal with cloth: weight, weave, mill, and how each behaves once it is cut and worn. Care covers the unglamorous part - brushing, hanging, pressing and the small habits that decide whether a suit lasts five years or twenty.
Nothing here is a substitute for being measured. If a piece raises a question about your own commission, your tailor will answer it properly at the consultation.
