Tweed was woven for weather. It was made heavy enough to turn rain, dense enough to hold warmth, and patterned so that a figure standing against heather or bracken does not announce itself. Every quality people admire in it now was originally solving a problem outdoors.
Which is why a tweed jacket cut like a business suit never quite works. Country tailoring is a different shape: a fuller chest and a deeper armhole so you can raise your arms without the whole jacket lifting, a longer skirt for cover, and pockets you can actually use with cold hands. Off-the-peg, that shape is either missing entirely or approximated so loosely that the jacket binds the moment you move.
Cut from your own pattern, it does the opposite. Your tailor will ask what you actually do in it - walking, shooting, a point-to-point, a Saturday in town - because the weight, the weave and the cut all change depending on the answer. A jacket for a February day on an estate is not the same garment as a lighter tweed for autumn weekends, even when the cloth looks similar on the roll.

Your tailor visits your home and asks what you actually do in it - walking, shooting, a point-to-point, a Saturday in town - because the weight and the cut both change with the answer. Fourteen precise measurements are taken.
Around 90 minutesYour pattern is cut and the tweed built by hand, with the action back, bellows pockets and any country detailing worked in from the start rather than added on.
Around 6-8 weeksYour tailor returns with the finished suit and checks it with your arms raised and a gun mounted if that is what it is for. Adjustments are made within days.

Book a ConsultationTweed is a coarser, heavier woollen cloth with a rougher surface and, usually, colour woven into the yarn before it is spun. That is what gives it depth close up and a soft, muted read from a distance. Worsted suiting is smoother, lighter and made to hang cleanly in an office. Tweed is made to keep weather out and take a knock.
It depends entirely on where you will wear it. Around 11oz to 13oz suits autumn weekends, travel and town wear, and will not cook you indoors. From 15oz upward is proper field weight - warmer, more weather resistant and considerably more hard-wearing, but noticeably heavy if you are mostly sitting down. Your tailor will ask before recommending anything.
Yes, and increasingly it is. A lighter, quieter tweed in a herringbone or a subtle check works perfectly well for the office, for a country wedding or for a race meeting. The rule of thumb is that the louder the check and the heavier the cloth, the further from a city it belongs. For town wear proper, see bespoke business suits.
It is a pleat or bi-swing panel across the upper back that lets the jacket open as you raise your arms, then close again. If you shoot, or you want to swing your arms without the jacket dragging at the collar, it is worth having. If the jacket is mostly for weekends and travel, it is optional.
Yes. Breeks fasten below the knee and sit under a shooting stocking; plus fours are the fuller, longer version that overhangs. Both are cut from the same pattern work as the jacket, so the whole rig matches properly rather than approximately.
Six to eight weeks from the first fitting, the same as any other Noble Fox commission. If you are ordering for a particular season - the start of a shooting season, a wedding, a trip - allow a little extra and speak to your tailor early.
